Dalmatian Pelicans
In 1993 Charlotte and I worked for 3 months in a University hospital in Thessaloniki. Every weekend, we went on short trips to discover the natural world in Northern Greece and during one of these trips, we visited Lake Kerkini, a lake created by a dam to control the Strymonas river. The birdlife was astonishing, and I saw Dalmatian pelicans for the first time. I always dreamed of going back, and more than 20 years later, I returned several consecutive winters to photograph these beautiful pelicans with my floating hide. I contacted local fishermen and joined them on their fishing trips. These fishermen get you really close to the birds as the birds follow them to get some scraps from their catches.
